Who Am I

Last updated: October 2006

Shannon McNear majored in Psychology and Christian Thought/Biblical studies at Liberty University. These days she engages in more hands-on study of the human psyche, as a homeschooling mother of eight.

She co-wrote a Christian childbirth education class curriculum, including accompanying Scripture studies and commentaries, and taught classes using these materials. They are currently published online. She contributed personal commentary and the story of her first home birth to Unassisted Homebirth: An Act of Love by Lynn Griesemer (1998, Terra Publishing). Her writings have also appeared in The Post and Courier, Charleston, South Carolina, and Deep Magic e-zine. She has been a member of the Christian Writers Guild, American Christian Fiction Writers, Romance Writers of America, and many other online and local writing groups. She is also review editor for the western fiction pages for the Christian Fandom website.

Through written correspondence and in person, she has been active in parenting ministry, covering aspects from birth and breastfeeding to grief issues related to loss of a child. She also serves in music ministry as an instrumentalist and worship leader, and is involved in women’s ministry.

She and Troy, her husband of almost 20 years, are the parents of nine precious treasures: Alistair, Ian, Erin, Ross, Breanna, Duncan (sweet baby in Heaven), Cameron, Corrie, and Meeghan. They home birth, home school, and do many other things around the home, like cook and clean ... occasionally, anyway ...

Closest to her heart, even before family and writing, is her faith in Yeshua Ha Mashiach – Jesus the Messiah – as the Incarnate God who made atonement for humanity with His own blood, and whose finished work doing so was given Yahweh’s seal of approval by a literal raising from the dead after the crucifixion. Historical evidence, important though little-known, supports her belief in the Resurrection of Jesus.

Some of her other interests include sewing, reading, herbs, horseback riding, scrapbooking, historical research, and all kinds of music, especially Celtic traditional styles.

May your time spent browsing these pages be a blessing, thought provoking if nothing more. You are encouraged to truly "search the Scriptures" as the Berean fellowship of old did, to find out "whether these things are true."
